GLOBAL GENDER MATTERS SEMINAR

The Department of Gender Studies welcome you to a seminar with Professor Minh Nguyen, Bielefeld University, Germany on  "Waste and Wealth: Gendered Labor, Value, and Morality in a Vietnamese Recycling Economy".

On Professor Nguyen's Talk:

Mobility, Transborder Encounters, and Moral Economy
A study of how migrant laborers remake their lives within the global waste economy.
"This ethnographic study focuses on regional networks of waste trading and the ways in which they have emerged in the interlinked shadow economies of mainland Southeast Asia. The research analyzes the construction of moral communities that underpins the regional mobility of waste and people as part of transnational encounters, global economies of recycling, and regimes of values".
