Gender Studies Seminar Series
Seminarium

(We hope to reschedule this event during fall, keep updated on our website or on Facebook)

This is the second seminar in the Gender Studies Seminar Series this spring at the Department of Gender Studies, Anders Neergaard from the Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society (REMESO), Linköping University will present this seminar.

Inspired by Critical Race Theory, this presentation departs from a position in which race, racialisation and racism is theorised as a fundamental principle of social organisation in modern society, at the centre of social theory together with understandings of capitalism and patriarchy, and consequently in the understanding of Sweden. Central to our conceptual field are the concepts of exploitative and exclusionary racism, grasping diverse forms and logics of racism. While studies focussing on racism in Sweden, broadly defined, often has tended towards understanding the extreme right, and different aspects of exclusionary racism, there is still limited research exploring exploitative racism. Departing from this distinction the talk focuses on how racialised bodies as central in an intersectional understanding of social injustice. The talk is structure around ongoing research on the racialisation of the Swedish labour market and on the role of trade unions in relation to racism and racialised workers.
