CANCELLED: Global Gender Matters Workshop ‘Debating and Doing Fieldwork’
**THE WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19**
Fieldwork is an integrated part of social science research and takes many different shapes and routes. This Global Gender Matters Workshop seeks to debate the ways in which fieldwork can be understood as a practice and conceptualized as a methodology. The workshop is organized against the backdrop of current queries into the practice of fieldwork as regards its standing in relation to decoloniality and its role in a post(-)colonial era. Considering the social, political, emotional, and ethical dimensions of fieldwork, the workshop asks first, how can we rethink the practice of ethnographic fieldwork? And second, whether there is a feminist ethnographic method? With the workshop, we wish to share ethnographic fieldwork experiences, consider whether the method allows for a specific kind of supreme empirical material, what locality and context mean for a fieldwork critique, what kind of challenges fieldwork imposes upon those involved, if fieldwork is an intrusive way of collecting data, and whether fieldwork can be carried out in collaborative ways and as acts of solidarity.
Organizers: Professor Helle Rydström and Professor Diana Mulinari, Department of Gender Studies, Lund University.
