Gender studies is a field focusing on questions about power, allocation of resources and inequality from a gender perspective. By developing concepts and theories gender studies seeks to explain people’s actions and societal conditions that (re)create inequality based in gender. New developments in masculinity studies, postcolonial and queer theory, as well as how gender interacts with class, sexuality, disability and ‘race’/ethnicity are central to current theoretical and analytical debates in gender studies.
The Department of Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary department under the Social Science Faculty at Lund University. We are offering courses in gender studies from bachelor level to PhD studies. We have a bachelor program in gender studies, as well as a two year master program. Research within the department is conducted within several fields and from a diverse collection of theoretical perspectives.
