Gender Studies as a field of research, focuses on questions regarding power, allocation of resources and inequality and explores the social and cultural processes from a gender perspective. By developing concepts and theories Gender Studies seeks to explain people’s actions and societal conditions that (re)create inequality based in gender. New developments in postcolonial studies, masculinity studies and queer theory, as well as how gender interacts with class, sexuality, disability and ‘race’/ethnicity are central to current theoretical and analytical debates in gender studies.
