Katrine Scott

I am a PhD student at the Department of Gender Studies. I am interested in the intersections of queer theory, postcolonial studies and feminist methodologies.

During my MA in gender studies, I have worked with questions around feminist and postcolonial perspectives on education. I have previously been engaged with feminist perspectives on pedagogy in the Copenhagen network, Foreningen køn i pædagogik, editing and writing an anthology for teachers on gender and education.

Current research

I am exploring everyday life narratives of university students in urban Iraqi Kurdistan. Central to the analysis is the diversity in strategies that students develop to understand the past and craft the future in a (post)-conflict society. The heterogeneous accounts from the point of view of university students open up for multifaceted stories challenging and adding important nuances to existent master narratives of Iraq and the region, which in Western media is often portrayed with a single focus on violence. My research is an ethnographic study with students from two universities in the city of Sulaimani in Iraqi Kurdistan: the private American University of Iraq, Sulaimani and the public University of Sulaimani.

I have previously visited Iraqi Kurdistan as a coordinator of a joint seminar in Sulaimani for young Kurds and Danes focusing on youth life, gender and activism.
