Meet the Author – Book Release

Giulia Garofalo Geymonat

"Buying and selling sex: Between pleasure, work and exploitation" is the title of Giula Garofalo Geymonat's new book, now in Swedish. The Gender Studies Department and Daidalos Publishers proudly invite you to a book release at the Gender studies Department on April 28 at 17:15.

Prostitution is a controversial topic and the positions are often polarised. Discussions about prostitution easily become discussions about something else – infidelity, monogamy, migration, criminality, morals, sexual identity, or the economic subordination of women. Gender Scholar Giulia Garofalo Geymonat's book – in Swedish Köpa och sälja sex: Mellan njutning, arbete och utnyttjande – deals with prostitution, or sex work as sex workers themselves prefer to call it. The book deals with the issue from different angles, not least working conditions, labour law, and trafficking, which together lay the ground for a truly nuanced debate.

Welcome to a book release event at the Department of Gender Studies! Jens Rydström, professor in Gender Studies, will discuss the book with the author. Their conversation is in English, but the audience is welcome to ask questions in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian. The book will be sold for a heavily reduced release price! Complementary drinks and snack!

Giulia Garofalo Geymonat recently finished a Marie Curie Fellowship at the Department of Gender Studies and now teaches part time at the Department.
